What you need to know about CRT
A roundtable discussion on the influence of critical race theory in Canada
Critical race theory is one of the most influential ideologies in Canada right now. Canadians ought to be informed on what the ideology says about the world and why it’s at the centre of so much controversy.
On October 5, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute hosted a virtual roundtable discussion on the influence of critical race theory in Canada. Originally, the event was going to feature a debate format, and I issued an open challenge to pro-CRT advocates in the Toronto Sun. But, as time went on, it became clear that we weren’t going to get the conversation we desired with a debate format and we switched things up to give panelists a chance to offer more nuanced perspectives on CRT.
The roundtable features an all-star lineup: Samuel Sey (SlowToWrite.com) Noah Jarvis (True North), Rupa Subramanya (National Post), Sonia Orlu (Simon Fraser University), Dave Meslin (author) and Chris Lockhart (community leader).
You can find links below to watch the event. I think you’ll see that the discussion is informative about why some people support CRT, why some people oppose CRT, and the various ways that CRT influences Canadian institutions today.
Love your work Jamil, keep it up.
Its pretty clear the man who supports CRT has no reason other than his belief that people who oppose it are far right, conservative Christians and he really fears and dislikes these people. This is why we need more conversations like this. Very revealing.
